Description :
Sekolah Tinggi Agama Islam (STAI) Tasikmalaya berdiri pada tanggal 23 Februari 1974 dan mendapatkan pengesahan Menteri Agama RI dengan SK No. Kep/D.14/176/1975 tertanggal 27 Juni 1975. Pada awal berdirinya bernama Fakultas Tarbiyah YPPI Tasikmalaya. Kemudian berubah menjadi Sekolah Tinggi Ilmu Tarbiyah (STIT) Tasikmalaya berdasarkan Keputusan Menteri Agama RI Nomor 219 Tahun 1988, dan terakhir berdasarkan SK Menteri Agama RI No. 315/1995 berubah menjadi Sekolah Tinggi Agama Islam (STAI) Tasikmalaya. Berdasarkan SK Dirjen Pendis Nomor 3389 Tahun 2013 tentang “Penamaan Perguruan Tinggi Agama Islam, Fakultas dan Jurusan pada PTAI” dan pada tanggal 23 November 2015 STAI Tasikmalaya mendapat penghargaan sebagai Sekolah Tinggi terbaik (Peringkat Pertama) dilingkungan Kopertais Wilayah II Jawa Barat dan Banten. Saat ini STAI Tasikmalaya dalam proses perubahan menjadi Institut Agama Islam Tasikmalaya (IAIT)
